Hawaii- Luau

Pete and I had made a list of things we each wanted to do. This was not Pete's first time to Hawaii but he indulged me this one thing....but in the end he was really glad he went.

We searched and searched and found that the 'Royal Hawaiian' had the best reputation for their authentic luau dinner and entertainment. They did not disappoint!
The food was great and there was plenty of singing, dancing and even a short history lesson on the islands. History is one thing that Pete and I both enjoy so we were pleased to learn more about Hawaii...
All of the entertainment staff were so nice and really seemed excited to show us 'island' life.
This gentleman is mashing up poi, this is an underwater root that is a staple in their diet.

Making paper from reeds.

Decorating the paper so that they can make the paper into clothing...

Sampling some poi...sort of tastes like a really bland potato.

Waaaayyyyy too many of these....

The happy couple.
We also happen to sit next to a couple for DC...can you believe it?

Pete with his lei...

and me...

The entertainment begins.

This gentleman is some sort of 'chief' on the island through blood lines...
check out those authentic tattoos!

The dancing begins...this was a really great show.

Here is the 'chief' during this fire eating show...
we met him afterwards and he was HUGE, his hands were the size of my head!
This was a great experience and we recommend this hotel and show to anyone who is
going to visit Oahu in the near future!
