Hawaii- Pearl Harbor

On our first real day in Hawaii Jessica took Pete and I to Pearl Harbor. It was a really pretty day and Pete and I wanted to make sure we got to go to this memorial...it was at the top of our list...

Jessica showing us exactly where we are on the map...

A submarine...the Bowfin, I think....

There was a memorial for each vessel lost at sea.
Loved ones had left leis recently.

Pete and I on the boat going out to the Arizona Memorial.

The view of Pearl Harbor from the boat.

The Arizona Memorial up close...

USS Missouri

Part of the Arizona submerged. I was surprised how much you could see.
If you look at the bottom of the picture you can see that the Arizona is still
leaking oil after all these years. The tour guide said that the belief is that when
the last survivor of the Arizona is laid to rest here the oil will stop leaking....

Gun turret one on the Arizona.

Can you see the cables in the right of the picture?
This is the location where the the American flag was raised
and lowered on the Arizona.

Family and friends still visit and leave flowers and leis to honor those lost.

Here is the list of the those that survived from the Arizona that have choosen to
return to the site to be entombed with their fellow shipmates.
